Join First Choice Health Centers in Raising Awareness with Red Sock Day!

Every 42 seconds someone in America has a heart attack.  With statistics like these, it should be no surprise that Heart disease is the number 1 killer of men and women in America.

To help raise awareness, First Choice Health Center staff will be partaking in our first annual Red Sock Day on Valentine’s Day!  Our staff will be encouraged to wear red socks on Tuesday, February 14th and use their unconventional ankle attire as a fun conversation starter with patients to share facts about Heart Health and ways they can reduce their risk of heart disease.

First Choice also encourages YOU to celebrate Red Sock Day and share some of these important facts with your family and friends.  Together we can increase awareness and hopefully lower our risk of heart attacks, strokes, aneurysms, and other coronary diseases this Valentine’s Day.

8 Ways to Lower Your Heart Disease Risk

  1. Quit Smoking
  2. Improve your cholesterol levels (total levels under 200 mg/dl)
  3. Control high blood pressure
  4. Get Active
  5. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, and other plant-based foods as well as fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, tuna and lake trout
  6. Get to a healthy weight
  7. Control your diabetes
  8. Manage stress and anger
